Slowly But Surely

Potty training has been a long, and often frustrating, road at our house. One of the biggest struggles Macey has with her Asperger's is anxiety about new things...that didn't mix well with learning how to use the potty! Not only was there the main issue to tackle of learning a whole new routine but once she got the basics down there were brand new bathrooms everywhere she went and numerous different clothing styles to figure out what to do with on the potty, the dress is still a struggle :). Everyone kept telling me not to stress about it and Macey's behavioral therapist kept trying to convince me that Macey had to be ready and comfortable with the process but I wasn't always receptive to everyone's good advice. Mostly for selfish reasons, I know it is silly but I was so worried about people judging me or thinking I wasn't a good mom because my almost 4 year old wasn't potty trained yet. I also didn't want to make Macey stand out from her friends and for them to think negative things about her. But at the times when I tried to push really hard it seemed like we didn't make any progress and then the advice sunk in a little more each time. Well, I don't want to jinx anything but after 9 long months of working at it with alot of time and energy I think Macey has finally got it!!! She is still in a pull-up at night but I can deal with that for quite a bit longer :) We are so proud of her, I know this was a major challenge for her and I can tell that she is really proud of herself too! Hooray!!!

that is sooooo exciting! it's such a relief when they finally get it. cooper was in a pullup for a long time, so no worries on that. it's been almost 2 years since i started with him, so i'm not too excited to get hudson going, but i think he might be getting ready. blah.
