Summer Alphabet Project

I can be slightly obsessive about things...if you need proof of that go back and check out my Disneyland posts :)  I am now onto a new obsession, a summer alphabet project I am doing with my girls.  It started out as a way to practice Macey's writing skills.  Most of her letters are quite sloppy (which is probably quite normal but because, again, I am obsessive (an nervous) about her starting kindergarten I really want to send her in with every advantage so if the anxiety and social stuff is really tough for her she will be able to breeze through the academic stuff, giving her one less thing to worry about.  She will probably be fine all around but try telling that to a worrier of a mom :)  So anyway, what started as a way to practice Macey's handwriting skills has turned into a whole summer of activities based on the letters of the alphabet.  My original idea was to make a letter jar and pull out a different letter but as I started planning I realized it couldn't be so random because I needed to ensure I had all of the supplies on hand.  So we settled on a letter chain.

So far it is going great!  It isn't something we do everyday (there aren't enough letters!) but it has been a good go-to when a day in front of the TV is looking eminent.  We have done A, B, and we started C tonight.  For A we made masking tape A's (Macey's is first, then Ave's) and made our own apple stamps.  We also read a book about Amelia Earhart.

For B we made bean letters (Macey thought her whole letter needed to be filled in), made bubble prints and went on a neighborhood "B" hunt.

We started C tonight with a castle craft I found at the dollar store and by looking at a princess cookbook.  Macey and I choose two fun recipes that we will cook tomorrow or Saturday along with a crayon melting project that I saw on Pinterest, which has been a great help in finding ideas and activities.  I am glad to finally be doing things that I have pinned!  Hopefully the rest of the alphabet is just as fun!!

What a cute idea! I started doing a ABC scavenger hunt on our morning walks in the cemetery by our house. Amazingly, we find all the letters. :) You're such a good mom and Macey is going to be so successful in Kindergarten! Way to go Liz!
