Macey's tonsils have always been HUGE! I remember when she was about 2 her ENT told us she had the tonsils of a six year old! So, in July the time finally came to take them out. She wasn't having any one major problem with them, it was more of a bunch of small things. She often had trouble swallowing food, it was affecting her sleep, she had a horrible case of strep in the spring and her speech therapist suggested it might be influencing her nasal speech. Dr. Kelly did the surgery at the Riverton Primary outpatient center and he also took out one of her tubes that had gotten stuck. The day before the surgery we did the class again and Macey loved it, I am so grateful to have a great children's hospital so close to us! The surgery itself went well but the recovery was rough! The anesthesia made Macey nauseous and she threw up a few times following the surgery. Nothing we tried would get her excited about eating or drinking and she hated the liquid pain medication...note to self-get it flavored if needed in the future!! She was lucky to have lots of friends and family stop by to visit and bring treats and both her and Avery loved getting to watch so many movies! I am glad that we got this over with now and I know it will improve a lot of things in her life. Bye-bye tonsils!!
